As the private rented sector plays an ever greater role in meeting housing needs the paucity of readily accessible data on it has become an increasingly serious issue for policy makers and practitioners; and with the government hitching affordable rents to private sector rents it has become an issue for providers of affordable rented housing too.
Speakers are Steve Wilcox of York University, Dorian Gonsalves of Belvoir Lettings, Richard Hughes of the Valuation Office Agency and Richard Donnell of Hometrack. They will be reviewing the data that are currently available, including the new VOA dataset, and presenting their analyses. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions and discussion will focus on what more could be done to improve access to data. The Cabinet Office’s new ‘Open Data’ policy will be of particular relevance to government data but access to the data owned by private sector organisations is equally important.

The seminar is on 11 November, from 1.00 to 5.00 at the Soho Theatre, Dean Street, London W1D 3NE. This is in central London easily accessible from Oxford Circus, Tottenham Court Road and Leicester Square tube stations.
There is a £50 registration fee to contribute to running costs of the seminar and the HSN. All seminars during the year are free if you pay the annual individual HSN subscription of £75 or are covered by an annual institutional subscription, which is £500. You can register now to book your place and organise payment later if that is more convenient. Please follow this link to register. When you register your booking will be confirmed by email and will appear on the Registrants List which you can check on the website.
